What to do in Peschiera del Garda

In few places, like Peschiera, can you stroll through different historical eras.

The town centre is a Renaissance fortress and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Full of shops, bars and restaurants, it is surrounded by canals that channel the waters of Lake Garda into the Mincio river.
Thanks to the lake and the river, a wide range of water sports are available, such as water skiing, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and SUP. Around the town, several cycling paths allow you to comfortably explore the hills and the lake shores by bike.


The strategic location, with access to the motorway and major transport links (trains, buses and ferries), ensures quick connections to the most important tourist attractions in the area.

THE FRASSINO SANCTUARY

  • About 30 minutes on foot from the apartment
  • It is the most well-known church in Peschiera, built in the 1500s in the Lugana wine countryside and a pilgrimage destination
  • It preserves the miraculous statuette which, according to tradition, saved a farmer from a snake attack
  • It is not only a place of faith, but also of art with its Renaissance frescoes, and of peace with the cloister tended by Franciscan friars

Public transport

Peschiera is connected by bus, train and ferry to the theme parks, the other towns on Lake Garda and the cities of Verona, Venice, Milan, Brescia and Mantua.

By bicycle

In the hilly area south of Peschiera there are many routes suitable for cycle tourism and a flat 40 km cycling path along the course of the Mincio river to Mantua.

Places to visit along the route:

  • Borghetto, about 14 km from the apartment, a charming fairy-tale village on the Mincio river, famous for its water mills and stone cottages. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with a romantic and peaceful atmosphere.

 

 

  • Santuario delle Grazie, 41 km from the apartment, a distinctive sanctuary overlooking the Mincio in an area known for its lotus flowers in spring and summer. On the feast of the Assumption there is the street painters’ festival. In the same area, boatmen offer boat trips with bicycle transport.
    For children: a crocodile hangs in the church, which according to tradition was embalmed by the friars of the sanctuary.

  • Mantua, 43 km from the apartment, an elegant city of art surrounded by lakes and rich in Renaissance palaces of the Gonzaga family. A bicycle transport service by bus is available on public holidays; alternatively, from Mantua you can return to Peschiera by train, changing at Verona. From Mantua you can sail along the Mincio by ferry to the Po river and the Adriatic Sea.

  • Castellaro Lagusello, 11 km from the apartment, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, a small fortified medieval rural village overlooking a rare heart-shaped natural lake.

  • The Tower of San Martino della Battaglia, set in the countryside, is a historic site linked to the battles of the Italian Risorgimento, with a museum and a majestic panoramic tower, visible day and night from Lake Garda. From the top you can enjoy a sweeping view over the morainic hills and the lake.

 

  • This route of about 3 hours allows you to visit both.

 

 

 

Monte Baldo

It is a pre-Alpine mountain range that separates Lake Garda from the Adige valley, famous for its spectacular panoramas and great variety of flora. It offers a unique natural environment and biodiversity, so much so that it is known as the “garden of Europe“.

Perfect for some cool relief in the summer months and ideal for hiking, outdoor sports and breathtaking views over the lake. In winter you can ski.

It is reachable by car from the apartment in about 1 hour.

The central section, known as the Creste del Baldo, is the highest part of the range with peaks over 2,000 metres and some challenging routes. You can access the Creste on foot, or use the ski lifts.

If it rains

Please note: in summer, if it rains it is easy to get stuck in traffic as Lake Garda tourists move around by car, especially in the morning.

Wineries

Peschiera del Garda is located in the heart of the Lugana wine production area, one of the most appreciated whites of the Lake Garda region.
The surrounding hills are home to numerous wineries, where you can taste local wines directly from the producers.
Many also offer experiences such as guided tours, vineyard tours and wine tastings immersed in the landscape.
